J Woodstock Immersion Camp 9th – 11th September’11 J
What a fun weekend! It was my first camp and I can honestly say I enjoyed it as much as the students. The theme was Woodstock, brilliant for the age group of the students, which was mid-late teen. On dismounting the bus, the students swore the oath, led by Sam. They pledged to speak only English and to be “lovers not fighters” for the duration of the weekend. After they had passed through customs, we did some ice-breakers and then Woodstock began. We began with some tie-dying, which produced some wonders. We then played many, many games and had a campfire that was interrupted by a tropical storm. On Saturday we prepared for our recreation of the Woodstock concert, made friendship bracelets and granola, did yoga, had a debate and much more. The concert that night was a brilliant success, with everyone kitted out in their hippie best. On Sunday the activities continued with, for example, a scavenger hunt, obstacle course and a game of jeopardy. The students were from Easyway School, Viendma, and they were all wonderfully willing to hippie it up! We had an absolute blast all the way through. One student was fascinated by Irish people’s great love for “spuds” so he changed the words of the “bananas” campfire song, subbing in ‘potatoes’ instead so we went potoes all weekend! I’m already looking forward to my next camp. Peace and Love!
